HI5 Social Network

Another social network I have found that some of you may have already heard of is the social network site, Hi5. This particular social network is one of the largest social network sites in the world behind the likes of Facebook. Its free to join, with no sign-up fee required.

This social network acts in a similar fashion to the number one leading social network Facebook, as it allows users to create a personal profile in which they can customise to suit their particular needs. In addition to this, HI5 allows its users to create avatars, upload and share music interests and play games with friends all over the world. This websites acts very much like an online community in regards to the amount of communication and interaction, with over half of the users of HI5 network being between the ages of 18 – mid 30s.

HI5 has incorporated into its website the use of virtual money that can use within the compounds of HI5 to buy virtual gifts. These virtual coins are brought with real money from as little as £1.

As with many social networks out there, there are always some advantages and disadvantages that come with them, an advantage for the use of social networks would be that they are a quick, easy and convenient way to meet/catch-up with long lost friends, as well as showing and displaying pictures as a way of showing friends and family what you have been up to. A major disadvantage of using a social network would be that a majority of social networks require you to fill in some personal information, to allow you to initially create an account, this information is often left public unless you turn this function off yourself.

i have heard of hi5, infact i have an account. it was created before facebook and it seems that it has developed from when i joined it. it never used to have features like chat and you can even setup up a music player on your profile which is unique because no other social site has that feature.Early this year, the founder of hi5 acquired social gaming company, Big Six. it is evolving from a social network into a site focused on social gaming so I don't know whether we can still call it a social network.

Do you think once it has properly evolved into a social game site it will be better than facebook of twitter?

I have never had a HI5 account. However what from what i have heard and read, they are quite big in the social network area. The fact that you still have one with the likes of Facebook still being around proves this.

I do not think that if properly evolved it would be bigger than Facebook or Twitter, as these social networks are still evolving themselves, continuously looking for ways to update and bring a new dynamic to social networking.

It would take a significant improvement for HI5 to reach the heights of Facebook or Twitter.

Where the hell have you been Theo??? Hi5 was the biggest in its days, but i think it got hacked and it was very easy to spam the website which caused it to crash.

From looking at it today, i can see that it has reformed since the hacking incident. If it ends up as a social gaming network, it could be a good move for the owners as it lost its reputation as a social network and most users moved over to myspace before facebook started.

Making it a social gaming site could give it a completely new identity that can make people start using it again.

Given the fact that it has, in the past been hacked, do you think that a new reformed and redesigned website will bring users back? I personally do not think so.

What do you guys think?

As for a social gaming site, it may have more success in this field, but with the likes of Secondlife and Habbo Hotel around will it be successful, who knows.

It might be reformed because it is coming back as a social gaming site instead of a social network, so this maybe their new way of attracting customers. there is no way of knowing whether it may be successful because we have not experienced it to judge it but i think the games will have a different concept from habbo hotel and second life.
